Combining colors when it comes to your outfit can be a total headache. Especially when they are colors that are not commonly seen around. From our daily casual wear to workwear or weddings. Combining colors can be a bit tiring when you have no idea how to wear them.
When you wear them correctly you look stylish and up-to-date. As in, the Gen-Z way. But if you wear those colors wrongly, phew! you will be seen as the latest power ranger in town. You look distasteful and so un-stylish.
One of the frequent requests we get on GlamCityz is how to combine outfit colors, especially when they are rare colors. For example, Green and Red, Navy Blue and Mustard Yellow, Green and Gold, Pink and Grey, and many more.
These are colors that are not commonly worn around us. So what if you want to have that unique look and stay stylish that people start to tell you: “Please can I snap your outfit? I like it.”
We’ve created a new edition on GlamCityz to curb this issue. Just like how we created the “Owambe is Online” edition to solve the issue as regards styles and outfits to wear to a wedding. This time we are calling this new edition, “Colour Combo.”
On this week’s “Colour Combo,” we will be discussing how to wear, NAVY BLUE & MUSTARD YELLOW.
How to wear Navy Blue and Mustard Yellow
To start with, it is best to note that Yellow is a loud color. Yea! you can be spotted too easily even from far. So if you are the type of person who does not like being loud, you can make your Navy Blue color more than Yellow or make sure they are both balanced evenly.
Navy and mustard yellow are known as complementary colors, meaning they sit opposite each other on the color wheel. Complementary colors create high contrast, giving a bold, eye-catching look when paired. Since navy is directly opposite orange, mustard yellow—closely related to orange on the color wheel—works exceptionally well with navy, resulting in a balanced yet striking combination.
For a work or Formal Setting
For an office-ready outfit, go for a navy blue suit or blazer and add a pop of mustard yellow with a tie or pocket square. If you want a more subtle approach, consider small mustard accents, like cufflinks or a tie with a mustard stripe.
- Pair a tailored navy blue blazer with mustard yellow accessories for a refined look.
- Add a white shirt to break up the colors and keep things polished.
- Go for brown/black leather shoes and a matching belt for a classic touch that enhances both colors.
Tip
- Do not wear a Yellow blazer and trousers and then mix it with blue (this is if you are a male). You do not want to look weird. Walking around like you are a minion. Except if it’s the color theme of the day.
- Females can wear a Yellow blazer and complement blue
- If you are so unsure of how to wear these colors correctly, just make sure you have more blue and a touch of yellow.
For a Casual Date Look
Looking sharp on a date or at a casual gathering is easy with mustard chinos and a navy top. Try pairing mustard yellow chinos with a navy blue polo or sweater for a laid-back but polished vibe. And for a female, you can wear a Yellow gown and heels.
- Throw on white sneakers or loafers (for males) to keep things light and fresh.
- A navy blue bomber jacket or cardigan adds structure to the outfit and works well as a layering piece.
- Add a belt in either brown or black to pull the outfit together neatly.
Tips
- If you are going on a first date as a female, you should either wear black or red. Here are some style inspos for a red dress on a date.
- If you are going to wear Yellow on a first date make sure to complement Black with it. e.g. A black bag and shoes.
For Street Wear
For a bold streetwear vibe, pair a mustard yellow hoodie with navy blue joggers, Jeans, or cargo pants. This color combination is ideal for a fresh, youthful look.
- Go for chunky white sneakers and layer with a denim jacket or navy bomber.
- Minimalistic accessories like a simple beanie or chain necklace complete the streetwear aesthetic.
- Choose joggers with zipper or cargo pockets for an extra trendy edge.
