If you’re like me, your toes are in need of some serious love right now. Yeah, you’ve painted your fingernails like 200 times since the beginning of quarantine, but your toes have been stuffed in fuzzy socks for so long, you forgot painting them was even an option.
But now, the weather is warming up and your feet are going to be slipping into flip flops and sandals very soon. That means it’s time to paint your toenails. Not sure how to truly give your toes the at-home spa treatment they deserve? Here’s everything you need to know about giving yourself the perfect at-home pedicure.
1. Clip Your Nails
Step one: trim those toenails. It’s easy to forgot you have to take care of those little guys, so chances are those nails are long AF and they need to be trimmed. Use a nail clipper designed for toes specifically and cut your nails so they extend just beyond the edge of your nail bed. Work from one corner of the nail to the other using small, even clips. One big chomp in the middle can cause your nail to crack!
2. File Them Smooth
Next it’s time to get those nails into a pretty shape. Take a nail filer and file them in one direction (sawing back and forth causes peeling and breakage), rounding the corners. Rub cuticle oil onto your cuticles and gently push them back with a cuticle stick.
3. Soak And Scrub
4. Add A Pop Of Color
Yup, it’s time to paint! For streak-free color, prep nails with a base coat to create a smooth surface, then swipe on two coats of color. Paint a swipe down the middle, and then another swipe on each side. Seal with a top coat and you’re ready to go!
