Selena Gomez is responsible for some of the greatest red carpet outfits in recent memory. From her Disney days to adulthood, the actress has had her finger on the pulse of what makes great fashion.
Amid the changing trends and different events, Selena has also learned to embrace her changing body and identify what makes her feel most beautiful. This month, the singer sat down with Vogue to reflect on a few of her standout looks from over the years, and how she continues to prioritize her comfort over everything else.
When Selena attended her second Met Gala in 2015, she felt self-conscious about her appearance. She revealed that she “fluctuate a lot with my weight and I remember this night specifically, I didn’t feel good about my body,” But she collaborated with designer Vera Wang to create an ensemble she felt confident in.
“What was really amazing was that I actually got a chance to work on the dress that fit my body. I had such a beautiful time shaping this dress. I think that we came together and built something really beautiful and something that fit me really well.”
This moment helped Selena to realize, “I don’t have to fit that 19-year-old body shape anymore, because I’m not.” Down the line, when her body continued to change, she was able to rely on her team to pick outfits that she felt like herself in.
She remembers an instance, at the Dead Won’t Die premiere, where she “didn’t want to wear anything tight” and felt “so beautiful” in the Celine minidress she chose.
