A wedding in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State took a tragic turn after food served at the reception was allegedly poisoned. The incident reportedly left the groom critically ill and claimed the life of one guest.
According to local reports, the alleged poisoning was linked to the bride, who is suspected of tampering with the food due to a personal vendetta.
The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the incident and disclosed that an investigation is ongoing. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, stated:
“We received a report that food served at a wedding reception had been tainted, leading to the groom falling critically ill. Unfortunately, one of the guests also lost their life.”
Two suspects, including the bride and another female, have been arrested in connection with the case. They are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Adam further assured the public that the police are committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring justice is served.
“All the wedding attendants who consumed the poisoned food, except for the one confirmed dead, have been discharged from the hospital. The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be provided in due course. We urge the public to remain calm while we work tirelessly to resolve this case,” he added.
As of now, the identities of the deceased, the groom, and the other victims remain undisclosed.
