Nollywood star Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha recently opened up about the unique challenges she faced while preparing for her role in the Netflix series Seven Doors.
In the series, she takes on the character of an Igbo queen married to a Yoruba king, a story that explores themes of royalty, family ties, love, betrayal, and redemption.
Since Akpotha is of Igbo descent, stepping into the role required her to master the Yoruba language. In a recent interview with TVC, she revealed that she had to learn Yoruba specifically for the project.
She also noted that the version of Yoruba used in the series was not the casual dialect spoken in urban areas but a more traditional and complex variation, making the task even more demanding.
“I had to learn Yoruba for my role in Seven Doors. The Yoruba in the movie was not the regular one spoken in Lagos State, so I had to be very particular about the tone.”
The Netflix series Seven Doors, which premiered on December 13, has been widely praised by viewers for its engaging storyline, well-developed characters, and standout performances.
The star-studded cast includes industry icons such as Femi Adebayo, Adebayo Salami, Jide Kosoko, Hafiz Oyetoro, and Dele Odule, alongside Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha.
