Popular singer Kanye West has long spoken about his desire to join the fashion line and now it seems like he is getting the chance to do so. On Thursday 25th of June, Kanye signed a 10-year deal with GAP to produce a new clothing line named “Yeezy Gap,” which will be available in stores in 2021.
Yeezy gap is expected to sell for typical Gap prices of less than a $100 per item, based on an information from Business of Fashion (BOF), which means it will be far more accessibly-priced than Yeezy clothing line that Kanye debuted at the 2015 NYFW (New York Fashion Week).
This new line will exhibit modern outfits for men, women and also for kids at accessible price points.
Meanwhile, Gap’s slipping sales in recent years mean that it could use the infusion of hype that West has been able to bring to his sneaker parnerships with Adidas in the past. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the retailer has shut over 3,300 stores and furloughed 80,000 employees. It also canceled the collaboration it had announced with Telfar in January.
Mark Breitbard, Global Head of Gap Brand said :
“We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his Yeezy brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership,”
Yeezy Gap will just include clothing for now, while Adidas will still produce sneakers under the Yeezy name. Yeezy’s value was estimated at $2.9 billion in April, according to a release.
Kanye West Announced through twitter Nigerian British designer Mowalola Ungesi, will be joining Yeezy as a design director.
