Before his hit song Peru started playing everywhere, Fireboy DML was just a young guy fresh out of school, trying to make it in Lagos. He had no big connections, no fancy plans—just his talent, his songs, and a lot of hope.
He was writing music just to get by, performing for small crowds that barely noticed him, and hiding his struggles from his family.
Then one day, out of nowhere, he got a message that changed his life—a WhatsApp DM from Olamide!
Crazy, right? Olamide wasn’t even looking to sign anyone at the time, but after he heard Fireboy’s music, he reached out. Just like that, Fireboy was welcomed into the YBNL family. It was like sliding into his destiny without even knowing it.
That message led to a record deal and his breakout song Jealous, which first dropped on the YBNL Mafia Family album in 2018. From there, everything changed. He gave us Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps, went on tours, sold out shows, and even worked with international stars.
But fame can be funny. At some point, a wild rumour spread that Fireboy bought a private jet. Even his mum believed it! He laughed it off and said it wasn’t true—just one of those random stories that come with being in the spotlight.
Now, with his new album Adedamola, Fireboy is going deeper. He’s thinking more about growth, purpose, and the kind of music he wants to make next.
He calls his sound “Afro-Life”—a mix of Afrobeats, R&B, and soul, full of emotion and real stories.
