American rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, has been released from prison after spending two years in custody.
His release comes after he accepted a plea deal in his ongoing racketeering case. Young Thug was arrested in May 2022 during a significant crackdown on gang activity.
He was one of 28 people indicted on 56 counts related to violations of Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and alleged involvement in street gang activities.
He was identified as one of the three founders of the Young Slime Life (YSL) gang and faced serious charges, including conspiracy to violate the RICO Act and participating in gang activities.
On Thursday, Young Thug pleaded no contest to charges related to RICO and being a gang leader, as well as guilty to several other charges, including two related to gun offenses and three for drug offenses.
Following his plea, a judge sentenced him to 15 years of probation instead of the 45 years that prosecutors had initially recommended, which included 25 years in prison and 20 years of probation.
As part of his probation, Young Thug is required to deliver anti-gang presentations to children four times a year and complete 100 hours of community service annually. If he successfully completes his probation, it could lead to a reduction in his service time.
